Songs & Swords, Book 4

Bronwyn is a Harper agent, a finder of rare antiquities and lost treasures. The most elusive treasure, however, proves to be the secret of her past. Her search for her family and leads her to Thornhold, a mountain fortress held by the paladin order known as the Knights of Samular. Bronwyn is swept into a power struggle between the paladin order, the Harpers, and Dag Zoreth, an evil cleric allied with the Zhentarim. She finds a partner in the adventurous dwarf Ebenezer Stoneshaft, and an ally in Danilo Thann, an old friend and fellow Harper. Danilo must chose between aiding Bronwyn and obeying his mentor Khelben Arunsun.

AUTHOR'S NOTE

This book, the most controversial of my Forgotten Realms books, deals with the complexity of family and duty, moral dilemmas and difficult choices.  It was meant to introduce a new story arc and leave unresolved threads for other writers to pick up, so be warned -- it doesn't offer a tidy resolution. On the other hand, while writing this story I developed a genuine fondness for dwarves.  Ebenezer Stoneshaft quickly became one of my favorite characters.

It's also a bit of a digression in the "Songs & Swords" series, in that it is not about Arilyn, Danilo Thann, and Elaith Craulnober.  Danilo has a minor role in the book, as does Khelben Arunsun, but most of the characters are new.
