A: Sorry, but I really
can't. Like many other working writers, I've had to make a
hard-and-fast rule against reading other people's unpublished
work.
Horror stories abound --
copyright tangles, misunderstandings, bruised feelings -- but
the main issue is time. The realities of 24/7 impose certain
limitations. You might think that reading and editing a 10-page
excerpt is a small thing to ask, but your request might be one
of a dozen or more received in a single week. Also keep in mind
that fewer than 5% of published writers can afford to write full
time, and that most writers also have full or part time jobs, as
well as family responsibilities. Writing time is limited, and I
have to devote most of that time to meeting my commitments and
deadlines.
If you're looking for feedback, I'd
recommend looking for a writing group or a good online workshop.
It may take several tries to find one that's a good fit for you,
but some people find this sort of interaction to be of great
benefit.
